The display typeface inspired by ceramic foldings  – Alaya

SELF-INITIATED
Typeface creation

Alaya is a unique display typeface that was designed specifically for use in posters, brochures, and other large-format applications. This project challenged me to explore the technical and creative aspects of typeface design, including kerning, spacing, and other essential elements of typography.

Creating a functional and aesthetically pleasing typeface involves a lot of attention to detail, from the precise spacing of letters to the careful consideration of stroke widths and curves. Through this project, I gained a deeper understanding of the technical challenges and creative opportunities involved in typeface design.

One of the most crucial elements of typeface design is kerning, which involves adjusting the spacing between individual letters to ensure that they are visually balanced and legible. I also learned about other important design elements, such as x-height, stroke width, and serif style, all of which play a crucial role in shaping the final appearance of a typeface.

Overall, this project gave me a newfound appreciation for the complex and nuanced art of typeface design and the many specialized fields that contribute to the creation of beautiful and functional typography.
